Staff Biographies

Steve Keeler, Senior Pastor

Pastor Steve, a graduate of Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Kentucky, has been an active member of the Charleston Atlantic Presbytery since 1982. While serving the Presbyterian Church on Edisto Island, he was recalled to active duty as a Navy Chaplain in 1988. After a brief assignment at the Naval Air Station Oceana, Virginia Beach, VA, Pastor Steve served the crew of the guided missile cruiser USS San Jacinto CG-56 during Desert Shield/Storm. He was installed as pastor of Sea Island during the summer of 1991 while the congregation worshipped at the nearby Lady’s Island Elementary School. Since moving to the present campus, the congregation has continued to grow and flourish. Pastor Steve and his wife Kay, who currently serves as Principal of the St. Helena Elementary School, have four children and three grandchildren.

Heather Prince Doss, Associate Pastor


Raised in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Heather first came to South Carolina when she enrolled at Furman University in Greenville where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in History.  She completed her Master of Divinity at Princeton Theological Seminary and then spent two years serving homeless men and women in Washington, DC.  Deeply committed to caring for “the least of these”, Heather joined the staff at Sea Island Presbyterian to help expand and deepen SIPC’s community outreach.  Heather and her husband Eric love to travel, hike, garden, and eat all kinds of good food!

John Sheppard, Parish Associate


John is an honorably retired member of Charleston Atlantic Presbytery serving SIPC as Parish Associate.  He worked a number of years as an electrical engineer and businessman before entering seminary and accepting a call to ministry.  Prior to SIPC, he served churches in California, Minnesota, New York, and on Hilton Head Island.  John supports the general pastoral work of the church and is particularly interested in faith development and the vital underpinning of Christian faith in facing everyday challenges during confusing times.

Charles Frost, Minister of Music


A native of Red Bank, New Jersey, Charlie began his music studies at an early age.  As a sophomore in high school, be began playing the organ and directing choirs in churches.  He attended Westminster Choir College, Princeton, New Jersey, where he received both the Bachelor and Master of Music Degrees in Church Music.  Mr. Frost has served churches in New Jersey, New York, California, Washington, and Michigan.  He has appeared in recital in many churches across the country.  In addition, he has led workshops and choir retreats.  When he is not directing the diverse music programs at SIPC, Charlie enjoys cycling and cheering for the Dallas Cowboys.

Trish Wescott, Business Manager

Trish has been Sea Island’s  Business Manager since 2002.  She is married to Jim, and they have two Labrador Retriever “fur children” named Paddler and Stormy.  Trish and Jim enjoy spending time with family and friends, traveling and spending time in the outdoors.

Kathy Hulbert, Director

Sea Island Presbyterian Day School

In 1999, Kathy joined the church staff to begin the Day School at Sea Island. A graduate of Michigan State University with a Masters in Education from Lesley University, Kathy is dedicated to educating God’s “little people”. Kathy is mother to Jeff (UVA), Brad (Clemson), Sarah (Clemson) and Melissa (Clemson) and wife to Brian, retired USMC/Town Attorney for Hilton Head. Kathy and Brian are enjoying their empty nest by traveling with a newfound love of cruising to destinations abroad.

Angela Durbin, Communications Specialist

Angela and her husband, Dan, have two daughters and a son.  Angela has been working part-time at Sea Island Presbyterian since the Fall of 2005.   When she is not working and/or juggling three children’s busy schedules, Angela enjoys painting, photography and reading.

Melissa Davis, Youth Director


Melissa Davis has lived in the Lowcountry for most of her life. She is married to John and has three daughters and a son-in-law. Melissa has been a youth volunteer for over 10 years. She served as a youth director for two years at St Andrews Parish in Charleston and accepted the call to serve Sea Island Presbyterian as Youth Director in 2006. Melissa loves youth ministry and spending time with friends and family.
