April 23, 2017 Sisters and Brothers in Christ, From today’s gospel lesson we learn that in a post-resurrection appearance Jesus said to his disciples, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” Speaking to the elders from the church in Ephesus the Apostle Paul offered a personal word about […]
From the Session Council, Diaconate, and Pastoral Staff,
May the love of God, the grace of Jesus Christ, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you.
As we return to our homes and places of work in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew, it is our prayer that you and your loves ones, your homes and property are safe. We are happy to report to you that the church and the church campus survived the storm without flooding or structural damage.
Looking ahead, the 25th anniversary celebration for Steve and Kay has been postponed, date to be determined. As a community of faith, we will follow a regular Sunday morning schedule with worship at 8:30 and 10:30 am, and celebrate the Sacrament of Baptism and the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper. The Choral Concert for Sunday afternoon has been cancelled. Families, parents, children, and youth, please refer to the church schedule as it outlines meeting times and venues for MADD and our youth ministry for the month of October.
Wednesday Kirk Night resumes this coming Wednesday with a supper menu that includes rosemary pork loin, mashed potatoes, spiced apples, salad bar, vegetarian stir fry and banana pudding. The Kid’s Menu will feature hotdogs. Small group studies for youth and adults will follow Evening Prayer in addition to the choral groups for children and adults.
In closing, we have weathered a significant storm. We stand beside and pray with neighbors who continue to suffer loss, and give thanks for the rainbows that remind us of God’s presence and promises especially in times of trouble. We celebrate with Nick and Jordan Plair in the Thursday morning birth of their son “Mason” at Beaufort Memorial Hospital, grandson of Richard and Jean Norris; and rejoice with Josh Derrick and Sydney Cummins, daughter of Karen Cummins, as they prepare to exchange wedding vows Saturday afternoon. With so much in front of us and so much to do, some of which appears overwhelming, may we take things one day at a time. One last word. John Jenkins tells the story of the preacher at the First Presbyterian Church, Anniston, Alabama who last Sunday shared the following perspective from the pulpit, “We can never thank God enough, but we can always thank God again.”
In the Name of Jesus Christ, peace and grace to all. Amen.
Youth Leadership Council (YLC) The YLC is designed to help our young people develop strong leadership skills while promoting an atmosphere of comradery and team building. Members of the YLC will be introduced to the congregation at a Commissioning Ceremony conducted on April 23 during the 10:30 am worship service.
The property committee is sponsoring a spring work day to clean our building and spruce up the church campus. Whether one dusts a book shelf, tidies up a closet or enjoys landscaping and yard work, this is always a good time to enjoy fellowship with friends and neighbors within the congregation.
It’s still ok to say, “Happy Easter.” Granted, if you said it outside of the church, you might get some strange looks. People might even try to correct you, perhaps saying, “Easter was last Sunday.” You may even find you get some strange looks from people inside the church. Yet, I stand by my earlier […]

Sometimes we can look around at the people sitting at the table with us, or joining us in the pews, and we can begin to think that in many significant ways, we are a lot alike. I believe that as God’s adopted children we share a very powerful bond. There is certainly more that connects […]
