Sunday School Classes
Newborn to 2 Years: Infant Nursery, Room 202
Toddlers and 2s: Erin Martin, Toddler Nursery, Room 205
Sunday School activities will continue in our Toddler Nursery this fall. Using the HeartShaper curriculum that has a basic understanding of how children at this age level learn, we will gradually introduce Bible lessons which include activities and learning experiences for their range of abilities. Each week’s lessons will include three easy steps for teachers to follow:
1.Activity Time will provide a variety of activities to help teachers guide children to explore the theme.
2.Bible Time will include stories and concepts with rhymes, songs, and reality-based objects.
3.Discovery Time will involved additional activities to let children continue exploring the lesson theme.
Pre-School, Ages 3-4: Trudi Peevey, Room 204
HeartShaper engages preschool children in more interactive Bible learning while providing teachers with flexibility to group children to unique situations. Each week’s lessons will include three easy steps for teachers to follow:
1.Getting Started (a variety of activities to help teachers guide children to explore the theme)
2.Bible Discovery (active participation in the Bible story, plus review and Bible memory activities)
3.Grow and Go (activities to help children explore what the Bible story means for them and how to respond in ways appropriate to our children)
Grades K-1: with Leisle Keeler, Room 206
This class will follow the same format as our 3-4 year old class with more advanced activities that are age appropriate.
Grades 2-3: Stacie VanVulpen, Education Building Room 309
This class was developed with the beginning reader and writer in mind. Helpful tips are given to guide teachers to adapt activities to meet the needs of the students in her class while reviewing favorite Bible stories, introducing Bible skills, and keeping their focus on what God asks them to do. Each week’s lessons will include four easy steps for teachers to follow:
1.Focus In (activity options help teachers introduce the lesson theme and Life Focus)
2.Explore His Word (kids interact with a Bible story or Scripture passage, practice Bible skills, and memorize Scripture)
3.Make It Real (activity options help kids answer, “What does this story or Scripture mean for me?”)
4.Live It Out (activities to help kids do, say, think, commit in response to God’s Word)
Grades 4-5: Barbara and Chris Marsh, Education Building Room 306
At this level, integrating Bible skills and Bible chronology into the curriculum doesn’t mean kids are now expected to sit down and listen, but attention spans do lengthen! Middle elementary kids are eager to learn about God and how they fit in His plan. They can learn large amounts of Scripture, put the Bible stories into perspective, and attach meaning to what they have heard and read. Each week’s lessons will follow the same format at our Grade 2-3 with more advanced, age-appropriate activities.
