Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
May the love of God, the grace of Jesus Christ, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you. The purpose of this letter is to inform you about a very important change in how the Stewardship Committee plans to implement the next Stewardship Campaign in support of the work, mission, and ministry of Jesus Christ by way of the Sea Island Presbyterian Church.
After much prayer and careful consideration, the Stewardship Committee has recommended to the Session Council to change the fiscal year from a calendar year beginning in January and ending in December to a fiscal year beginning on July 1, 2015 and ending on June 30, 2016. The Session Council voted in the affirmative to approve this recommendation.
One of the immediate consequences of this decision impacts how we as a congregation will conduct our annual Stewardship Campaign. Please be advised that the annual Stewardship Campaign has been moved to the spring. Instead of the months of October and November in 2014, the Stewardship Committee will introduce the new format for the Stewardship Campaign beginning in early April of next year with Commitment Sunday presently scheduled for Sunday, May 10, 2015.
In the meantime, members of the Session Council and Stewardship Committee ask that we as a family of faith prayerfully seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit as we continue to contemplate what Scripture teaches about the grace and practice of faithful stewardship. In recent years we have been encouraged to adopt and practice a “Covenant of Stewardship” in four significant areas. We believe we are called to practice and celebrate:
- Personal stewardship as we offer prayers of adoration, thanksgiving, confession, intercession, and supplication to God, and read the Scripture in the understanding that God’s Word enhances our personal life and mind, and facilitates healthy personal habits and relationships with other.
- Community stewardship as we gather with friends, neighbors and family in order to worship God as a family of faith, and to serve others within the congregation and in the local community.
- Public Life as a form of stewardship as we assume responsibility for the kind of world in which we live and the kind of world God is determined to make.
- Financial stewardship as we bring our first fruits to God and seek a faithful use of money as a source of blessing.
Please be advised that the church’s Operating Budget in the first half of 2015 will serve as a continuation of the 2014 Operating Budget. As we look ahead, the Session Council and Stewardship Committee respectfully requests that you continue your 2014 Pledge through June of 2015 or perhaps even increase your pledge until the new campaign concludes.
In closing, if you are interested in serving on the Stewardship Committee, please contact Pete Pratt at 525-1753. This group of servants to the church is always open to new ideas. May the Lord bless and keep you, and may we continue to be a blessing to God, the people he loves, and the work of Jesus and the kingdom here on earth. Amen.
