February 20

With the liturgical seasons of Advent, Christmas and Epiphany behind us, we now move into the season of Lent, a 40 day period where we follow Jesus into the wilderness and as he was tempted, it is of spiritual importance that we acknowledge our own personal temptations and do our best, in the name of Christ, to resist and overcome them.

May the wisdom of the Psalmist be a blessing to you, your loved ones, and friends, “Happy are those whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Be glad in the Lord and rejoice!” (Psalm 32) Peace and Grace +

Blue Shirt Sunday – First Sunday in Lent

The first Sunday of Lent throughout the Presbyterian Church (USA) is designated “Wear your blue t-shirt (or something blue) as a testament of the ways the One Great Hour of Sharing Offering on Easter morning makes a difference. King David sang, “You have turned my mourning into dancing; you have taken off my sackcloth and clothed me with joy.” (Psalm 30) Thousands of volunteers give expression to the words “Out of Chaos, Hope.” Many disaster survivors who see the love of God evident in the lives of these servants are able to take off their cloak of mourning and begin to find joy. We give thanks to God for Mark McCain and Jeneane Ryan who currently serve on PDA Response Teams.

Wee Kirk Night – Wednesday

We will begin our time together at 5:30 in the Fellowship Hall with a nice supper, the singing of two hymns, Evening Prayer and then move to two small groups where we will look at and reflect on the various hymns of Lent and explore the themes of forgiveness, vision, Holy Week and Easter. +

Scotland Here We Come

Our Scotland pilgrims should have their passports in hand and secure their Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) for the United Kingdom. Please reach out to Kay Keeler 843.812.4206 if you have questions or need help. Some of the highlights of the trip include visiting the home of John Knox on the Royal Mile, joining the congregation of the St. Giles Cathedral for Sunday morning worship, visiting the Culloden Battlefield near Inverness, St. Andrews on the coast, the Isle of Skye, and the Isle and Abbey of Iona. We begin our journey flying out of the Charleston International Airport on May 30.

Presbyterian Women – Outreach Projects

School Uniform Pants Drive
Help us provide new or gently used school uniform pants for students at St. Helena Elementary School. They especially need small sizes for students in Pre-K through 1st Grade, Khaki or Black. Pants your kids or grands have outgrown are fine if in good shape. Leave your donations in the blue bin located in the Narthex. POC: Donna Hartley at dfhartley51@gmail.com.

CAPA in Need of Paper Products
We are collecting paper towels, toilet paper and tissues for the CAPA’s Kids Shelter. Every dollar they don’t have to spend on these basic necessities can go toward helping the children they serve. Look for the labeled bin by the office entrance door. POC: Jodie Linn at jodielinn95@gmail.com.
