Friends,

Food for thought: “The Church is composed of the only people left in the world who happen to know we are ragamuffins; that we ourselves bear some of the responsibility for the selfishness that is ruining the world; and that we cannot get ourselves right … Yes, we are sinners but we claim forgiveness in Jesus Christ, that we can start again together in Him, cleansed and empowered.” (adapted from the apostle Paul’s letter to the church in Rome and from the Celtic mystic and founder of the Iona Community, George MacLeod,)

Having just returned from two weeks in Montreat, North Carolina, I thought the following information for the coming week would be helpful –

Our Christian education committee meets Tuesday, 6:00 pm, Room 208. This energetic group of thinkers and planners are developing an exciting fall program for our children, youth, and adults. Stay tuned!

The summer Wee Kirk continues Wednesday with a 5:30 pm soup and sandwich meal followed by a 6:00 pm Bible study and discussion around the table. The insights and ensuing conversation are stimulating.

Another segment of “Summer Days at Sea Island” is scheduled for this Thursday, 9:00 am to 12:Noon for children rising kindergarten through 6th grade. Let me just say there is a lot of energy in the building when the “kids” arrive and we are always thankful for the volunteers who help monitor and supervise the day’s activities!

Our Sea Island co-ed softball team managed by Sam Keeler and Matt Phiffer is scheduled for its first contest in the newly organized Church League Thursday evening, 6:30 pm, at Burton Wells. Feel free to contact Sam Keeler at 843.812.3999 for additional information about league play, eligibility, and registration. Play ball!

Finally, an invitation is extended to those who would like to meet more members and friends of the church. All you need is a smile and the willingness to serve one Sunday a month as a greeter and usher. Please contact Ellen Kemp at eskemp72@gmail.com or 843.597.2466.

As summer thunderstorms dance around us, we also look forward to the opening ceremony Friday evening for this year’s Water Festival. Stay safe. Stay dry. And see you Sunday. Peace and Grace. +
