April 24
Easter Greetings +
Remembering that we are Easter people, we prepare to say goodbye to Pope Francis, a Christian brother and champion of Jesus Christ and the good news of the gospel. +
In Loving Memory of Pope Francis
As Christians, we are never isolated from current events and things happening around the world that impact everyday life. With that said, the World Communion of Reformed Churches, a global body representing more than 100 million Reformed Christians across more than 230 denominations, including the Presbyterian Church (USA), joins the global community in mourning the death of Pope Francis, who died Monday at the age of 88. His death marks a transformative papacy that touched the lives of countless people across faiths and continents. The pope’s death is not just the loss of a religious leader but a fellow pilgrim in the journey toward a more just and compassionate world. Please know that expressions of Christian sympathy and support have been shared with our sisters and brothers at the St. Peter’s Catholic Church across the street from our church campus.
Men’s Breakfast
Looking to Saturday, there is one important change from last weekend. The monthly men’s breakfast is taking place this Saturday, April 26, beginning at 8:00 am, in the wing of our Fellowship Hall. Following a round of introductions and welcoming guests among us, we will start with a blessing for our meal and the hands that have prepared it, and then make our way through a menu of scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage, grits, biscuits and gravy, along with mixed fruit topped off with orange juice and several pots of freshly perked coffee. Christian fellowship remains an important characteristic and quality of any and all congregations. Point of Contact is Mike Yoakum at 843.263.6133 or mikeyoakum.29920@gmail.com.
Many communities of faith slide into a lower gear during the week after Easter. Not Sea Island Presbyterian! Look at what’s happening Sunday!
Children & Youth Sunday
For the Second Sunday of Easter, our children and youth will lead us through the morning liturgy consisting of readings from the common revised lectionary in addition to our Sunday prayers and a whole list of musical selections and a round of congregational hymn singing. This is a first for Sea Island and the format for our 8:30 and 10:30 worship services will bring smiles to your faces and joy to your hearts. By the grace of God, may we resist what is so often referred to as CannonBall or Low Sunday. See you Sunday morning! +
Boston Butt Sale
A sign-up sheet to reserve your own freshly smoked Boston Butt will be located Sunday morning in the Narthex. Nearly 50 Butts have already been sold and reserved Instructions will be given during the Sunday worship services about picking up your delicious and scrumptious Boston Butt from Sea Eagle located on Boundary Street. Proceeds from the sale go to benefit our children and youth attending summer conferences at Montreat. Thank you for your strong and ongoing support!
St. Francis Food Trailer
It’s hard to believe how fast time passes, but it’s that time again where we will have the opportunity to support the St. Francis Food Bank on St. Helena Island with our contributions and gifts of dry staples and canned goods This Sunday morning. The Food Trailer will be parked underneath the portico on the north side of the campus and will be unlocked and open to receive each and every gift.
In closing, may you and your family, friends and neighbors continue to abide in the wonder, peace and joy of Easter +
