July 7
Greetings,
Kay and I have returned from a trip to Rome, Italy and the Montreat Worship & Music Conference, which was also attended by twenty eight children, youth and adults from our congregation. There are many stories to share, but what is more important at this time is to keep our neighbors in Texas in our hearts and prayers as they work together to recover from the massive flash flood along the Guadalupe River.
As you know, Mark McCain who serves on the Session Council also serves on the South Carolina Presbyterian Disaster Assistance Team and has asked that the below information be made available to the congregations within the Charleston Atlantic Presbytery.
Earlier today, Mark shared that the region of Texas is one of the richest Presbyterian regions of the state, as the beloved Mo Ranch, a sister camp of Montreat, is located in Kerr County. All campers and facilities at Mo Ranch are safe and this location is being used as a central coordination point for the Mission Presbytery. The Synod of the Sun disaster response team is fully operational in collaboration with other VOAD organizations. Additionally, Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) has been activated and is preparing to respond as appropriate upon stabilization of the region.
In the meantime, as the Holy Spirit guides and directs us, this is what we can do. The most effective way to provide support is through financial gifts, which allows responders to meet the most urgent needs. Kay and I provided a donation this afternoon in support of the recovery effort. Together, we send a message of HOPE, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in Trouble. Therefore, we will not fear, though the earth gives way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea.” (Psalm 46:1-2)
Thank you for prayers and support for our sisters and brothers in Texas, and may the Lord bless and keep you as we continue to pray for those of special need and care both here and around the world.
In Christ +
Steve
