Friends,
“The snares of death encompassed me; the pangs of Sheol laid hold on me;
I suffered distress and anguish. Then I called on the name of the Lord;
“O Lord,I pray, save my life!” (from Psalm 116)
Christians will gather this week with their respective communities of faith
to break bread and share the cup, to hear again the mandate to love one another,
to walk and pray with Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane,
to suffer the indifference of Pontius Pilate and yield to the way of the Cross,
to endure deafening silence in the wonder of what will happen next,
when all of a sudden, the dawn of the first Easter morning will change everything.

“Easter allows us to affirm that although God seems very distant
and although we remain preoccupied with many little things,
our Lord walks with us on the road and keeps explaining
the Scriptures to us.” (Henri Nouwen)
