Hugh Gouldthorpe, Present Day Turkey & Its Place in Christianity

Hugh and his wife Nell have just returned from a nine-day trip to Turkey where they were able to visit several historical sites related to early Christianity. One of those places was a small city in northern Turkey now known as Iznik. Historically known as Nicaea, this is the geographical location where the Roman Emperor Constantine called together the first ecumenical council of bishops, which met from May to August, and the Christological issue of the divine nature of God the Son and his relationship to God the Father was settled. The Nicene Creed, which happens to be a part of our Book of Confessions, was developed out of this ecumenical council. A uniform date for the observance of Easter was also established.

Church Calendar

A monthly calendar is maintained in the church office and reviewed each Tuesday morning during the weekly staff meeting. If you or a group that you might be a part of an upcoming meeting or gathering in the Fellowship Hall or one of the classrooms, please make sure it is appropriately marked on this calendar. This helps the church staff coordinate our meeting spaces and avoid over scheduling for the same space. This is not a still, quiet church campus. Thank you for your help and assistance.

Sea Island Remembers
Witness to the Resurrection for Barbara Partridge
Sunday, September 4, 2022, 3:00 pm

Barbara Partridge, Sun City, SC, entered the Church Triumphant on August 3, 2022 surrounded by her four children, Linda, Cindy, Amy, and Bradford, and her granddaughter Sara. A former resident of Callawassie Island, Barbara relocated to Sun City following the death of her husband Ron in 2006. A faithful and long-standing member of Sea Island, a Celerbation of Life will be conducted in our sanctuary on the above date and time. And Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life.”

Beaufort Walk for Water

This is Beaufort Walk for Water’s sixth year. Last year Beaufort had more than 500 walkers on 30 teams and raised more than $60,000 to fight the global water crisis. Sea Island Presbyterian Church has been a sponsor all six years. Last year our youth group and adults had over 20 walkers and began and ended at the Norris’s home. That was a great success, but we know we can do even more — and we need your help again this year.

The Walk is Saturday, Sept. 17 at 9 a.m. This year we’ll all walk together at Live Oaks Park in Port Royal. You and our team (Sea Island Presbyterian Church) will walk together in partnership with hundreds of other passionate community members. All you need to do is visit: WalkforWater.com/BeaufortCo and click on “Find a Team.” and insert Sea Island Presbyterian Church. Be sure to scroll down. Add your name and register. Then start contacting your neighbors, friends, family, co-workers, and anyone else you know to join you. Sea Island Presbyterian Church will sponsor the first 20 walkers. Use the promo code of SIP2022.

Presbyterian Women (PW)

Presbyterian Women understands that scripture asks us to be the hands and feet of Christ in the world. As such, Presbyterian Women provides information about justice and peace and ministry to inform mission and community-building work. The triennial gathering of Presbyterian Women throughout Florida, Georgia and South Carolina is scheduled for October 21 – 23 at Epworth by the Sea, Brunswick,GA. Our Presbyterian Women organization has been a leader in recent presbytery events and works hard to stay connected to the broader church beyond
our immediate campus. This is also a great venue to meet and make new friends. For more information contact Shirley Yoakum at 843.271.5118.
