2024 Worship & Music Conference
Montreat, North Carolina

Thirty (30) Sea Islanders, a group that included children, youth and adults, attended and participated in this special conference at Montreat. The majority of the group enjoyed the hospitality of the Georgia Lodge across the street from Anderson Auditorium, where 1,100 Presbyterians from around the southeast would gather each morning to lift a common voice in worship.

Of special note, our children and youth shared their rendition of “Give Me That Old Time Religion,” with the Montreat congregation joining in. Afterwards, there was wild applause as music and song resonated with all the people sitting in the pews. You would have been extremely proud of our young people. Thank you Sarah Dykeman for the costumes. Through the week, we enjoyed meals provided at breakfast, lunch and supper by way of our special chefs Jody Linn and Carol Dykeman. They were up preparing breakfast at 5:30 in the morning and up as late as 9:00 pm closing shop.

We closed each day with a devotion and evening prayer, led by Kay Keeler and Lillian Aldred. We are grateful for our adult advisors and chaperones (Katie Bader, Sarah Dykeman, Jackie Gana and Jerry Linn, in addition to Lola Magliano, Jo Beaver, Nancy and Elora Fu, and Clara Partridge) who watched over us and did their best in helping us make our workshops and rehearsals on time. The Huckleberry remains one of our favorite spots where we would gather for ice cream followed by rock-hopping in the creek. And then there was the night when Jackie Ganas looked out her bedroom window only to be greeted by one of the black bears in the area. We thank you for your generous support and plan to go again next year. +

As you know our church campus was home for the third week of June for over (60) high school and college students who worked in relationship with the Penn Center on St. Helena Island repairing several homes on the island. They are grateful for Sea Island’s hospitality and look forward to working with us again. A team of Sea Islanders stood KP duty Monday thru Friday, arriving each morning
at 4:30 am to prepare the best breakfast in town! +

The Work and Mission
of the Sea Island Presbyterian Church

A simple formula continues to define who we are and what we do as we seek to follow Christ in the present-day world. On good days and bad days, it is important for us to “Love God, Love Others, and Reach Out. Or to put it another way, in Christ, we seek to “Honor the Past, Celebrate the Present, and Embrace the Future” as we endeavor to live the Jesus Way. +
