Community Stewardship
Jesus went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. Luke 4:16
Christ came to be in community with us and to establish a new covenant relationship between God and humanity. As members of the Body of Christ, we are called to engage in shared experiences of worship and fellowship.
Scripture tells us that Jesus was in the custom of regularly attending the synagogue. He made trips to the temple and participated in Passover and other rituals and celebrations of the faith. Christ honored God through regular worship with others and enjoyed fellowship and close relationships with his followers.
During Christ’s final days on earth, he prepared his disciples for the gift of the Holy Spirit and the formation of the Church. Jesus did not establish the Church as a building or a non-profit-organization, but as a life-giving community that is nurtured by the presence of the Holy Spirit. We see in the practice of the disciples a pattern for regular gathering and worship as the body of Christ. “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.” Acts 2:42
When we meet together at Sea Island for worship, we glorify God and take our place as members of the body of Christ. We are assured that when we gather together in His name, He is present with us. Through shared experiences and fellowship with our church family we build each other up, pray for one another, support one another, and experience the joy of friendship with other Christians.
