Personal Stewardship

Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off
to a solitary place, where he prayed. Mark 1:35

To be good stewards, we must begin with our personal practices. In the person of Christ, we have the best example of faithful stewardship. As we try to live “the Jesus Way” we should seek to emulate Christ in our personal lives.

Jesus enjoyed the company of others and poured out his love to all he met, but it was also his habit to regularly seek solitude and time alone with God. Christ prayed to glorify God, he prayed for others, and he prayed for himself. In the Lord’s Prayer, Jesus provided an outline for prayer to all his disciples.

Christ also had deep knowledge of the scripture and was able to draw on it for guidance, instruction, and support. Jesus was able to apply scripture in his day to day living and in his interactions with others. Through the work of the Holy Spirit, the scriptures can transform our lives, but we must practice the discipline of reading the Bible, of studying our faith, and growing in knowledge.

As we grow in our own relationship with God, we should also grow in likeness to Christ. The gifts of the Spirit will be more and more evident in our life. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control will be the pattern of our actions. Through the discipline of personal stewardship, we will be more and more capable to fulfill Christ’s command to love one another.
